Place Dauphine

Métro: Pont Neuf (Line 7)
Address: Place Dauphine, 75001 Paris

It's amazing how Paris is: it can be overcrowded in one spot and then one street away you can have a peaceful and intimate haven. That's exactly how I feel about Place Dauphine. Located at the tip of Ile de la Cité (City Island), it is only a couple blocks away from the so busy Notre Dame. Perfect place for a restful lunch or to read a book!

Henry IV decided of its construction in 1607 shortly after Pont Neuf (the new bridge-which ironically is the oldest bridge of Paris) was completed. Fusion of three small islands, it's first called Place Royale in honor of Louis XIII. Under the Revolution between 1792 and 1814 it becomes Place de Thionville.

On the 18th of March 1314, Jacques de Moley, last Templar Master was burned to death where the actual number 26 is.

The famous actors Simone Signoret and Yves Montant lived in building number 15.
