As you stroll on Ile Saint Louis, it's hard not to notice Berthillon, the ice cream maker. Every 2 steps you take, you have a shop selling this brand. Their tea room is located on rue Saint Louis, but you can literally purchase a scoop anywhere on the island. Beware though, of two things! First, if you decide to go to the tea room they do not take credit cards (like most retailers). Second, if you purchase your ice cream on the go at another location, make a round first because they do not sell the same flavors or have the same price listed.

Berthillon opened in 1954 and quickly became a house name in France. They pioneer unique flavors like Black Sesame, Caramel with Ginger or Roasted Pineapple. You can also find all the classics. I went for Pear and Lychees. Let me tell you, the pear flavor was good but Lychees was just divine. It was light and delicate. You could really taste the lychees which is hard to do if you ever tried to make something with it. I did not know feeling so much joy for ice cream was possible. I am drooling with envy just talking about it.
